June 2015 Zones

I’m an Engineer, Get me out of here will run for two weeks from Monday 15th to Friday 26th June 2015.

With 6 different zones, we’re looking for 30 engineers and have space for more than 2,000 students.

Here is a list of the zones we will be running, or if you want to skip straight to the application, teachers register here: imanengineer.org.uk/teacher-registration, engineers apply here: imanengineer.org.uk/engineer-apply.

Artificial Body Zone

The Six Million Dollar Man was TV fiction in the ’70’s, but today engineers are making that fiction a reality. And spending more than $6,000,000 in the process. We’re looking for engineers who are helping patients by creating body parts from new and old materials.
This zone is funded by the Wellcome Trust.

Energy Zone

We’ve come a long way since Newton and Kelvin, but making energy work for us is still a hot topic. This zone will be fairly broad so if your work touches on energy in any way, this is the zone for you. From designing and manufacturing renewable energy sources, to testing and improving existing processes, it’s all got potential.
This zone is funded by the STFC. To be eligible to take part, scientists should have some link to the STFC. See this page for more.

Environment Zone

Engineers change the world, some in the most literal sense. Engineers in this zone could be designing earthquake proof buildings; improving flood defences; figuring out how to minimise the impact of spoil; or checking pollution levels in water or air. Show students how much your work effects the world around them!

Hospital Zone

It’s not only doctors, engineers also help us stay healthy! This Zone will feature engineers working to improve medical treatments; designing new diagnostic equipment; making sure hospitals are well maintained, and keep running smoothly… or even building hospitals!
This zone is funded by the Wellcome Trust.

Space for All Zone

Astronauts get all the credit, and rocket science is easy. It’s time to highlight how much hard work really goes into exploring space.
Engineers in this zone could be building satellites, imaging instrumentation or launchers; keeping astronauts healthy, designing the software and hardware underpinning all this innovation; or using the data collected to improve our understanding of the universe. Rocket designers still welcome too.
This zone is funded by UK Space Agency.

General Engineering Zone

Engineering is a vast field, and we want you to show how varied it can be. You can be from any area and be at any stage of your career. The next time a student draws an engineer, will they draw you?
This zone is funded by the STFC. To be eligible to take part, scientists should have some link to the STFC. See this page for more.

Thanks to the Royal Academy of Engineering for providing core funding for I’m an Engineer.
