I’m an Engineer March 2017: Who’s taking part?

Schools taking part in March’s I’m an Engineer

I’m an Engineer, Get me out of here is back! In March students at nearly 50 schools will be interacting with engineers across 3 different zones.

Between 6th – 17th March school students will put the engineers through their paces in fast-paced live chats and probing questions on everything from artificial limbs, to giant robots and 3D printing.

For the latest news and announcements about the event, find us on Twitter, @iaegmooh, and follow the hashtag, #IAEUK.

Let’s meet the engineers and schools taking part…

Artificial Body Zone

This zone is funded by Wellcome.

The Engineers

Daniel Morse | PhD Student, Cardiff University

I look at how fungi and bacteria from the mouth interact and cause infections, how the cells in the mouth respond, and infect my own home-grown living 3D model of the roof of the mouth (which looks pretty cool under the microscope!).

Ana Gallego | Materials Engineer, Blatchford

I make artificial legs for amputees.

Zach Welshman | PhD Student, University of Leeds

I use a big expensive computer to see how the tiny bones and muscles in the foot move when you run around.

Sophie Cox | Lecturer, University of Birmingham

I use new materials and methods to make bone implants.

Todd Burton | PhD Student, University of Edinburgh

I am trying to find the best environment to grown a kidney in.

Alejandra Aranceta | Research Associate, University of Strathclyde

I work developing robotic arms for people that have lost their hand.

Robotics Zone

This zone is funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering.

The Engineers

Katie Pavey | Sales Engineer, Comau UK

I design high tech car factories with giant robots to build anything from a 4X4 to a supercar without any humans!

Ollie Morris | AUV Engineer, Salvage and Marine Operations

I maintain, operate and develop underwater robots to try and understand more about the sea floor and find things!

Iulia Motoc | PhD Student, University of Kent

I work in robotics, developing different algorithms for humanoid robots, and using robots in different scenarios, such as education and healthcare.

Mateusz Jozko |  Control System Engineer, Rockwell Automation

I am an Automatic Control and Robotics Engineer designing control systems.

Siobhan Duncan | PhD student, The Edinburgh Centre for Robotics

I research the possibility of using thousands of robots to complete tasks, such as searching for people after an earthquake, to save more lives when things go wrong.

Dmitry Dereshev | PhD Student, Northumbria University

I give robots to people and ask them about their experience – all to understand how people befriend robots.
