By taking part, you can:

  • Inspire the next generation in STEM through rewarding public engagement
  • Help students apply their learning to real-world challenges and careers
  • Share your work and experiences to help school students relate
  • Support students to break down stereotypes of what an engineer is ‘supposed’ to be

Connect with students rather than talking at them, by answering their questions about what matters the most to them. Uncover young people’s ideas about engineering and gain a fresh perspective on your work.

How does it work?

Connect with school students aged 10 to 18, from around the UK. You’ll create a profile, engage them in 30-minute live Chats, and answer their follow-up questions.

The activity is entirely online and text-only (no audio or video) so you can:

  • Take part from the office, on site, at home – anywhere with an internet connection!
  • Join in whenever it suits your schedule – let us know your availability and how often you’d like to take part, and we’ll arrange the rest
  • Engage and inspire students with no need to plan events or travel

Why take part?

  1. We prioritise schools with otherwise limited access to outreach, to connect you with the students who need you most
  2. We take care of the logistics to let you focus on inspiring students
  3. It’s not just school students who benefit – engineers enjoy it too!
    • I’m an Engineer is a low-pressure way to ‘dip your toes in’ to outreach – build engagement and communication skills as you go, with access to The Academy for extra support
