As we finish one event we’re straight into planning for the next one, this June. This time there’s a lot more planning to do, as we’re pleased to announce more funding for I’m an Engineer over the next few years.
Thanks to the Royal Academy of Engineering (our main funder over the next year) we’ve been awarded an Ingenious Grant to run 6 more zones covering all areas of engineering; 1 this June 2014 and 5 in March 2015. The grant is also to produce marketing materials, to develop the website, and to work with a funding consultant to grow I’m an Engineer further.
We’re also going to be running 8 zones on biomedical engineering themes over the next 3 years, thanks to a People Award from the Wellcome Trust. The first 2 biomedical engineering zones will run this June 2014, with 6 further zones taking us through to March 2017.
These zones will run alongside those funded by the Science & Technology Facilities Council until 2016.
Bigger and better
The new funding gives more stability to I’m an Engineer. It gives engineers from all areas the opportunity to take part in greater variety of themed zones. It secures at least 4 zones running in March and June for the next few years, meaning more engineers talking with more school students, and a bigger buzz around the event.
We’ll also reach more engineers and teachers. We’ll produce marketing materials such as postcards for teachers, engineers and STEM organisations. We’ll produce a short film about I’m an Engineer, to help teachers and engineers ‘get’ what the project is about in its own right, without having to refer them to the sister I’m a Scientist project film.
We’ve made another important decision, too. The time has finally come to grant I’m an Engineer its own twitter account. Follow @IAEGMOOH (sadly @ImAnEngineer was already taken) for event updates and Emily’s engineering puns.

I’m an Engineer is next running from 16th – 27th June 2014, with 4 zones. We’ll announce the zone themes shortly, but with such a broad range of funders we hope there’s something for everyone over the next few events.
