I’m an Engineer, Get me out of here will run for two weeks from Monday 5th – Friday 16th March 2018, connecting school students with engineers across the UK.
We are running two themed zones and a general engineering zone. Read about them below, or head straight to the application form:
- Teachers apply: imanengineer.org.uk/teachers
- Engineers apply: imanengineer.org.uk/engineer-apply
Satellite Zone
It’s easy to forget how far global navigation has come when finding your way in a new city is so simple thanks to the phone in your pocket communicating with a network of satellites.
Engineers in this zone could be building satellites, imaging instrumentation or launchers, monitoring natural and man-made disasters, improving how satellites communicate, studying the ocean from pictures taken by satellites or using the data collected to improve our understanding of the universe.
The Satellite Zone is funded by the UK Space Agency
Space Telescope Zone
If E.T really is out there, a space telescope is our best bet of seeing where they live.. Space based telescopes are used to observe distant planets, galaxies and other astronomical objects billions of light-years away and to observe the surface of our own Earth or even other planets. This zone will contain people working in different engineering roles with various telescopes pointing up or down, including the new James Webb Space Telescope, which will be able to look back over 13.5 billion years to see the first stars and galaxies forming.
The Space Telescope Zone is funded by the UK Space Agency
General Engineering Zone
The Millimetre Zone is a general engineering zone and will feature engineers from a range of different areas. We welcome any type of engineer to apply for this zone; the more diverse the better.
The Millimetre Zone is funded by Royal Academy of Engineering
