Detection Zone

Our body’s senses can tell us a certain amount about our immediate surroundings, but there are so many things we can’t see, hear or smell, or places we can’t reach. To tell us more about these we use all sorts of detectors, which have enabled us to learn about the smallest particles, the furthest objects of our solar system, and even the earliest days of our universe.

Engineers need to use and create detectors for all sorts of things – they might be designing the fire detection systems used in our homes, or using advanced detectors to monitor particle beams. Detection is used in hospitals and healthcare to tell us what is happening inside our bodies, on busy roads to keep us safe, and even under the sea to measure the noise pollution suffered by marine life near busy ports.
