We’ve got lots of interesting activities for students this autumn term.

Get stuck in with I’m an Engineer and I’m a Scientist!

Teachers: Register and get access to all available activities each month ❯
This includes I’m an Engineer, I’m a Scientist, as well as our other projects.

In addition to our activities running throughout the year, we will also offer special activities where we might ask you to sign up to take part.

School students gain a better understanding of STEM careers, and see STEM as something ‘for them’, by connecting with engineers, scientists, researchers, and experts in their field. Find out more ❯Everything happens online. It’s text-only (no audio or video), fully moderated, and flexible – take part at times that suit your timetable at any time during the activity.

All our activities are fully funded for UK state-maintained schools.

Open to: schools in the South West of England
Running from Friday 24 September to Friday 8 Oct 2021, students in the South West of England can connect with researchers from local universities, and find out about the exciting opportunities and innovations coming out of the South West. This Zone is funded by FUTURES2021.

Space Zone

Open to: all UK schools
Connect your students with engineers working in the growing UK space sector. They can chat with engineers building rockets, designing satellites, and using space data to learn more about our planet. The Space Zone is funded by the UK Space Agency.

Youth Engineering for Environmental Sustainability Summit (YEESS)

Open to: sixth form students in the West of England
From 11 to 13 October, YEESS will get sixth form students in the West of England thinking about COP-26, by guiding them through a thought-provoking programme of events around sustainability and engineering, with working engineers.

Battery Zone

Open to: all UK schools
How do we store renewable energy and power electric vehicles? By building bigger, cheaper batteries made from sustainable materials. Connect your students with scientists using green technologies to make the world a more sustainable place. The Battery Zone is jointly funded by the Faraday Institution and the Royal Society of Chemistry.

UK Black History Zone (Special Zone)

  • During Black History Month, school students can connect with historians and activists to learn about the figures that helped shape the modern-day UK.

Fusion Energy Zone

Open to: all UK schools
Nuclear fusion has the potential to revolutionise energy generation. In this activity funded by the UK Atomic Energy Authority students will connect with engineers aiming to produce almost limitless, low carbon, and reliable electricity with no nuclear waste from the reaction itself.

Invisible Internet Zone

Open to: all UK schools
We all use the internet every day, but how does it work, and who are the people keeping it running? In this activity funded by techUK and other internet infrastructure companies, students can meet the engineers responsible for building, improving, and maintaining the systems that keep us connected with the rest of the world.

Genetics Zone

Open to: all UK schools
Students can discover what makes them who they are, and learn how our genetic code relates to our risk of getting ill. The Genetics Zone is funded by the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics at the University of Oxford.

Open to: all UK schools
Students can learn more about what psychology is, and who it’s for, by connecting with working psychologists. The Psychology Zone is funded by the British Psychological Society.

Faced with an ever-urgent climate crisis, we need to make big changes to the technologies we use in our lives. This November, connect your students with the scientists and researchers making the world a cleaner and healthier place. The Clean World Zone is funded by Johnson Matthey.


December 2021

I'm a Scientist, Get me out of here

Nuclear Zone

Open to: all UK schools
Give your students a behind-the-scenes peek at the technology powering 21% of the UK in this activity funded by the South West Nuclear Hub and STFC. Show school students how nuclear science affects their everyday lives, and career paths they might not have considered, by taking part in live Chats with people working in the UK’s nuclear sector.
