June 2015 Student Winners

After every event we ask the engineers and moderators to select the students who stood out for them; the students they thought asked the best questions, or engaged most in the live chats. Take part in free engineering outreach this November!

I’m an Engineer is always an exciting time of the year. Students in the June event have asked questions on everything from renewable energy to self-repairing satellites to the classic pen versus pencil debate, and the live chats were tempting engineers to play hooky. We’ve also heard some great comments from teachers and engineers:     If you want to be a part of this, we have great news: For the first time, we are running I’m an Engineer in November! The next I’m an Engineer, Get me out of here event will run from the 9th to the 20th November 2015!! Technical Difficulties: 18th June

Some live chats were interrupted this afternoon (18th June). A DDoS attack involved slowing down connections at our hosting company. Please note that no security was breached. The hosting company are working on resolving the issue, and the site is running again. Loading times on the site may be slow until the issue is fully resolved. We are contacting the schools of all chats effected, so they may re-book.

I’m an Engineer June 2015: Who’s taking part?

I’m an Engineer, Get me out of here is back this June with students from nearly 50 schools talking to 30 engineers across 6 zones. The engineers will be competing for the school students’ votes in two weeks of fast-paced live chats and questions on everything from satellites, to 3D cameras, to making drugs, to adapting to climate change. June 2015 Zones

I’m an Engineer, Get me out of here will run for two weeks from Monday 15th to Friday 26th June 2015. With 6 different zones, we’re looking for 30 engineers and have space for more than 2,000 students. Here is a list of the zones we will be running, or if you want to skip straight to the application, teachers register here: imanengineer.org.uk/teacher-registration, engineers apply here: imanengineer.org.uk/engineer-apply. Artificial Body Zone The Six Million Dollar Man was TV fiction in the ’70’s, but today engineers are making that fiction a reality. And spending more than $6,000,000 in the process. We’re looking for engineers who are helping patients by creating body parts from new and old materials. This zone is funded by the Wellcome Trust. We’re nearing the end of the March round of I’m an Engineer and the office is a-buzz with live chats, vote counting, and questions on everything from UFOs to 3D printing pizza. So we thought, what better time to announce the June events? The next I’m an Engineer, Get me out of here event will run from the 15th to 26th June 2015!! Apply now to take part! We’re still working on the list of zones, and it will be announced in early April. Teachers and engineers can apply now to take part at the links below. March 2015 Zones

I’m an Engineer, Get me out of here will run for two weeks during Bristish Science Week from Monday 9th to Friday 20th March 2015. With 6 different zones, we’re looking for 30 engineers and have space for more than 2,000 students. Apprentice Zone This zone will be for engineers who entered engineering through an apprenticeship. Students will learn about engineering and more in particular about apprenticeships as a career option. Communications Zone The Communications Zone will look at how information is transferred. It could include a shuttle navigation or satellite software engineer, an underwater cable engineer, or a systems architect stopping hackers infiltrate security systems.
